DAC supports our community!

NAND is a program comprised of teachers, administrators, parents, community leaders, and students working together to reduce the alcohol and drug abuse among youth in our community. Together we are challenging our community to solve this difficult issue. Through parent participation and cooperation, educational objectives in the school systems, student accountability, and business/community leader awareness, our goal is to bring drug and alcohol abuse to an end.

Why We Care

Recent surveys and reports on Allen County youth indicate that substance abuse by young people is a  concern for our community. For example:

  •  More than 11% of high school seniors surveyed drank alcohol 40 or more times in the past year.

  • According to Allen County law enforcement records, there were 360 juvenile alcohol charges and      40 juvenile narcotics investigations in 2007.

  • 18% of 6th graders surveyed drank alcohol at some time in their life.

  • Almost 30% of Allen County 12th graders surveyed report that they binge drink.

  • 17.4% of all of those surveyed say the age of their first use of alcohol was 7 years or younger.

Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD) - Contract for Life

A Foundation for Trust and Caring  - This Contract is designed to facilitate communication between young people and their parents about potentially destructive decisions related to alcohol, drugs, peer pressure, and behavior. The issues facing young people today are often too difficult for them to address alone. SADD believes that effective parent-child communication is critically important in helping young adults to make healthy decisions.
